2014-2015 Winter Newsletter

December 15, 2014

There are so many things today that can affect your Homeowner’s coverage. Please see a few of them below to know what they are.

Some Dogs are Excluded

Homeowners, please be aware that insurance companies are excluding coverage for some breeds of dogs! If you are in the market for a new dog, please call us to see if they are a breed on the “naughty list”. Topping the list are Pit Bulls, Chow Chows, Rottweilers, Dobermans, and any mix of these breeds of dog, and/or any vicious dog that has bitten someone in the past.

Ice Damming

Beware of ice damming on your roofs this winter. It is best to clear the snow load off your roofs to prevent ice dams from occurring and causing water damage to your walls from the ice damming.

Wood-Burning Stove

It’s important to know that if you buy a wood burning stove or add a fire place, outdoor wood burner, or free standing stove that burns wood or pellets or corn, you need to call your insurance agent before you operate it. Your agent and your insurance company needs to do a pre-inspection on it to make sure it is an UL approved unit and that it has been installed to factory specifications to avoid a fire.
